Kasnick Photography - Olde Route 66
This definately comes under the category of "interesting"
places that I have been. Old Route 66, the Mother Road was
responsible for so much of our history. What is interesting to
me is that 15 years ago, you could hardly find mention of it in
these little towns, and now they make a really big deal of it.
These Motor Courts survived before the advent of the big
chains that offered pools, air conditioning and other
amenities. Can you believe that none of these motels were
air conditioned? Hardly anything in the whole US was before
1955. That is when it started, and now we are such wimps.
The first thing I looked for when I checked into a historic cabin
in Grand Canyon was the thermostat. Well, it's called the
switch for the ceiling fan!
The towns and byways have finally discovered that there is a
huge interest in old Route 66, and they have renamed the
roads, and even rerouted traffic to be sure that a travelor gets
some of the experience. Of course, it means more revenue
for the towns if they can get you off the interstate!
Enjoy this one, Sedona and the Grand Canyon are next!
